Langside 450; Tree Planting, Publicity Launch and Fundraising Ceilidh

Commemorative events to mark the 450th anniversary of the Battle of Langside 1568 – 13th May – 2018.

Langside 450 logo white letters

They are primarily led and organised by Langside Community Heritage which is a small group that recently received charitable status. You don’t have to be an archaeologist or an academic to get involved (I’m a member for example because I’m a local resident with an interest in the area’s history), so if you would like more information on how to become a member or get involved please see the groups contact information below.

Look out for other events to mark the 450th anniversary that will fall under the banner of Langside 450.

Tree planting and publicity launch

To mark the beginning of the commemorations, a tree will be planted in the grounds of the Glasshouse at Queens Park, Glasgow.

Date:     Wednesday 7th March, 2018

Time:     12 noon

The tree planting will be carried out by The Lord Provost of Glasgow, Cllr Eva Bolander, who has kindly agreed to be the Honorary President of the Commemorations. The Lord Provost will be assisted by pupils from local Primary Schools.

The event is being sponsored by Glasgow Tree Lovers Society and supported by the horticultural unit of Langside Campus, Clyde College.  The tree will be an oak (quercus robur) a species grown in Scotland in the 16th Century.
