MAKE IT OURS | Community Meeting for Refurbishing Govanhill Baths.
· Last in a series of community consultations regarding the remodelling of the iconic Baths Saturday 14 May from 1.30-3pm at Daisy Street Church Hall.
· Govanhill and wider Southside community are invited to have their say in what activities and services will be available from the building.
Govanhill Baths Community Trust is delighted to invite the wider public to their last community consultation to discuss plans for the reopening of the Govanhill Baths in late 2018. At this consultation, community members are invited to share their opinions on what needs the newly refurbished facility should serve.
With the Ladies pool, Infant’s pool, Turkish Baths and Sauna definitely being reopened, it’s important now for the community to decide together about how the building will run.
Learning and outreach officer Katie Gallogly-Swan said: ‘The Baths are iconic not just because of the building’s stunning beauty, but as an emblem for all Govanhillians. This community fought for the facility, undertaking the longest occupation of a civic building in British history to save it from demolition or being converted into private flats. This asset belongs to the people, and so it must be the people who decide how we best use it. That’s why these community meetings are being held, as well as workshops in primary schools, a street research team speaking more than 10 of Govanhill’s languages between them, exciting creative events to explore the new designs, and focus groups with different organisations and hard to reach populations. The invitation is there for you to make it yours.’
